Harleys In Hawaii
We were approached by Moving Colour and Partizan LA to develop one of this year’s most exciting projects: an animated music video for Katy Perry’s song Harleys in Hawaii (from her album Smile).
We were instantly hooked on the initial brief that called for a rubber-hose style and other archetypal elements from the 1930’s cartoons. The concept idea was even more important and challenging: celebrate Hawaiian culture through the eyes of a couple, working on a touristy-type Luau restaurant.
To achieve this goal we worked side by side with the director duo of Hoku and Adam to create characters, environments, and situations that feel real, but most importantly, local. The cherry on top was the originally choreographed dances of Patrick Makuakāne and dancer Kaila DeFries.
We invite you to ride with us this little Hawaiian love story from the voice of one of the greatest pop stars of the moment.
